Ice cream scoop was producing to large of a cookie and the dough separate from the scoop that well. Exact opposite with this scoop. Rock solid construction and the dough comes out with a satisfying plop. Last bunch of cookies "ran", probably because of the high butter content, so I'm going to order smaller one or maybe just separate the dough more on the cookie sheet.
FWIW, I was concerned about the portion size. Turns out that this size is perfect for what I consider to be the optimum chocolate chip cookie complete with pecans. Granted what you consider to be optimum and I consider to be optimum may be different. Perhaps the best way to put it is that the chocolate chip cookies coming out of this scooper are a tight squeeze into a glass of milk.
For better or for worse, I'm doing more cookie baking (and saving more money and having better ingredients) than before I had the scoop. I used to bake pan cookies all the time as the ice cream scoop or tableware spoon just to long to plop the dough out. Isn't a problem any more. Bye-bye most pan cookies.

i love oxo products however this cookie scoop is terrible. the dough does not come out you have to squeeze the handle like 100 times then use a spoon. what a waste!

We use it all the time. The handles never get stuck like some other scoops. The perfect size! Our cookies turn out perfectly and are a nice, big size. The rubber handles are really nice for gripping.

I've used this scoop for baking cookies and also for making melon balls. I haven't tried it on a variety of cookies, just some oatmeal cookies....and it worked well and there was a whole lot less mess! Melon balls...cantaloupe, honey dew or watermelon...are easy to make as well. I have no real complaints.
