2Worn Out Before Its Time  Aug 26, 2025
I started scanning the reviews here in order to have some context for the reviews I'm seeing for the other products in the running to replace our ailing Krups. Although it still makes decent coffee, the machine's problems continue to mount. Right out of the box, neither the option to brew 4 cups or less nor the off setting for the end-of-brew tone worked. We were in the process of a move and never went beyond figuring out where the closest repair center was. I've also been constantly vexed by the water level bubbles cited by other reviewers. Recently the brew interrupt malfunctioned, resulting in small coffee spill while removing the carafe--small, but big enough to cause a short in the LCD clock display, so it is no longer possible to read the first digit. We must set the timer by guesswork, or rely on manual operation. That was the last straw for me, and my wife hated the machine from the first day. Now my main frustration is that all of the thermal carafe machines I'm considering have good composite ratings but still feature dozens of reviews that make them sound as bad as what we've already got. All I know for sure is that I wouldn't buy another Krups of this design.

2Nice Design...Not So Nice Performance.  Aug 15, 2025
In my never ending quest for a durable coffee maker, I found the FMF5. It had everything that I was looking for with the exception of a brew strength selector. A week into use, the water level indicator developed an air bubble that prevented me from getting an accurate level reading. Then a little over a year and a half, the digital display went crazy (it would constantly cycle between program mode and the time display). My wife was afraid it was going to catch on fire. It finally died today halfway through a brew cycle. I really did not get my money's worth on this one. Even after registering this coffee maker on the KRUPS website for the 2 year warranty, according to their customer service "without my original sales receipt, it's not covered". Thank You Very Much KRUPS.

1Warning messages are out of control.....  Aug 03, 2025
We have had this Krups model for about a year, and suddenly we get the warning message that there is no water in the reservoir, when there really is! Unplugging or resetting will not change the error. It will not let us make coffee because it says there is "no water". Also, it will not let you make coffee if the coffeemaker needs to be descaled, which takes well over an hour.

3Does everything I need it to do  Jul 19, 2025
I got this coffee maker as a gift and honestly, although all the little gripes on here are true, I love this little coffee maker. Mostly I just love the thermal carafe, which is apparently becoming a rarity (I noticed the new Krups model isn't released yet?) Yes, the fill window sometimes gets bubbles, but I fill the machine with a glass juice carafe that holds a liter, so I know how much coffee I'm getting. How accurate are the "cup" measurements on coffee makers anyhow now that mugs are so huge? And yes the little swing door feels cheap. But if these are my biggest complaints about the machine that delivers my coffee every day (and makes darn good coffee too)...I think I'm in pretty good shape.

1People! Read the reviews thoroughly and THEN purchase  Jun 29, 2025
Don't get overly impressed with the Krups name as I. I read a couple of the reviews and thought I would take a $100 chance and purchase the FMF5. Poor decision. Should have pulled my old Bunn back out of the back of my truck on its way to the dump and found the "o" ring that may have been causing the leaks. This Krups coffee maker literally stinks to high heaven. It is nasty. My expensive fresh ground coffee tastes and smells like North American Civet Cat. I have done the vinegar thing, I've brewed with and without the filter sack (even though I have reverse osmosis water anyway) and experimented every way I could. I wrote a letter of complaint to the manufacturer and received a call over the weekend & I am to send the unit to their closest service center for examination. It is a pretty unit and not as bulky as my old Bunn stainless carafe machine. But at least the Bunn brewed coffee invited you to enjoy a cup and not make a run for the windows to open for a refreshing breeze to clear the stench out of your kitchen. I think I've written enough. But believe me I could go on and on. I am SO disappointed. ~ Coffee Lover in Eastern Montana
