GREAT DEAL Aug 28, 2010 I like everything of my knife set. I have been using it for almost 2 years and have had no problem at all. But you should know that you will need to get another knife for fine meat cuts. I got the 8" J.A. Henckels separately.
Low quality knives Aug 22, 2010 I purchased these because I was familiar with J.A. Henckels and associated the name with quality. I figured that might hold true even with these inexpensive knives. Unfortunately, in this case, inexpensive truly was cheap. These knives are garbage. Rust started appearing almost immediately. The blades are stamped, not forged, and show imperfections out of the box. There are chips and bent areas near the point of the blade and the machining marks to make the "everedge" look very crude. I may be wrong, but I associate the low quality with these being manufactured in China rather than Germany. These no longer come out of the block and may soon simply go into the trash. I've gone back to my Cuisinart set of blades that is FAR superior in quality and craftsmanship. I'll keep my eyes open for genuinely quality knives made in Solingen.
Great set of knives, I have had mine over 5 yrs and still like new Jan 09, 2010 I got these knives with a gift card from Bed Bath and Beyond who sell them for $59.99 and used a 20% coupon so they were just at $50 with tax. (They are the same price today as they were 5 years ago). I have used them daily since then for my family of 5. Now granted, I have never had a professional set of knives and this is the best, most expensive set I have ever had but they are great. I read some reviews stating they were not sharp which has not been my experience. They are so sharp that I have cut myself several times just barely brushing the blade against my finger. I did read that it was not wise to wash them in the dishwasher, but this is the case with just about any knife set that I have looked at, especially the type with wooden handles. This set does not have the wooden handles but I have always handwashed and dried them to be on the safe side. I also have found that I need to be especially careful with this set and not make the mistake of dropping them in the dishwater to be handwashed as I have cut myself several times doing this, this is why it amazes me that some of these reviews say they are not sharp. Makes me wonder what knives those people are use to. If I have one complaint at all about these, it would be that the paring knife blade is not thin enough. I still prefer my Pampered Chef paring knife which is pratically just a razor blade with a handle for pealing potatoes or carrots. My husband still prefers a potato peeler which I have never gotten use to using and find worthless. Hope this was helpful!
They work OK... for a while Dec 05, 2009 I have had this knife set for almost 3 years, and have been mostly pleased with their performance. I don't like that they're all serrated, but in general they worked pretty well. Unfortunately, the tips are now all bent and the tip of the paring knife has completely broken off. Knives ought to last for more than 3 years. These are obviously poorly made. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.
sharp knives Jun 29, 2009 The knives are very sharp and the block for storing them is beautiful! I didn't realize they were all serrated so I'm trying to make my peace with that fact. Overall, I am satisfied and the price is very reasonable compared to alot of other sets.
