5Great grater--the greatest!  Jan 09, 2026
With a blade that measures 8" long, this grater/zester is a heavy-duty tool. The handle, which feels like hard rubber, adds an additional 4 ½ inches to the length, making the grater look and feel like a carving knife. Held firmly in one hand over a large bowl, it simplifies grating because so much can be grated in just one sweep across the blade. When used on hard cheeses, the resulting grated cheese is light--easy to measure or sprinkle on salads or pasta.

For zesting lemons or oranges, the user may want to use less pressure than usual so that a long sweep across the blade will not also grate off some of the bitter pith under the colored skin. Clean up is easy--I just put mine on the top rack of the dishwasher. The only minor adjustment a busy cook has to make is to be sure the extra long blade is angled correctly, when using, so that all the product being grated goes into the bowl. Because of the blade's length, one must hold the blade almost vertically to grate into a very small bowl. n Mary Whipple
