Your Can Opener Search is Over Jul 29, 2010 I seldom take the time to write reviews but when a product is so overwhelming good that it totally embarrasses its competition, then it's a disservice not let others know about it. From the moment you open up the packaging and handle the "WMF Profi Plus Stainless Steel Can Opener", you know this is a high quality, excellently engineered piece of equipment. The rotation of the cutting mechanism is as smooth as silk. It clamps the can edge securely and cuts the tin almost effortlessly (even those already partially opened cans). Washing is a breeze. And you'll appreciate the thoughtful touches of "hanging loops" on the handles and a bottle stopper opener and angled lifter on the front end. Satin Smooth stainless handles. What's not to love!
very nice, 3 months zero rust Jul 25, 2010 We bought this to replace a Swing-A-Way (which should really be called a Rust-A-Way). We've had the Profi Plus for 3 months now and it has no signs of rust at all, zero, even though we put it in the dishwasher after each use. (Probably use it 2-3x per week.) Very easy to use and mechanism turns smoothly. Very minor negative points: turning handle appears to be hollow plastic, rather than metal, but is easy to operate and seems strong enough. The mechanism is pretty standard design, albeit in stainless; I rate it average in terms of crevices (not superior as another review said). I.e. the cutter and drive wheel are geared together, and the cutter has an internal-tooth spring washer holding it on its shaft. But, unlike a standard opener, you can just toss this one in the dishwasher and not have it rust and seize up. Overall, an excellent product.
Built to last a lifetime? Jul 19, 2010 I got tired of buying cheap $5 can openers every 2 years from my local store and decided to look for a higher quality Stainless Steel one. I purchased the WMF after reading all the positive reviews. I decided to get this over a safety can opener since I use the cover to drain excess water out of the can for chicken breast.
I noticed it is easy to handle and really smooth when cutting. I make an effort to rinse and dry off the can opener each time after use to prevent corrosion (yes it is still possible). I'm looking forward to using this for at least the next 10 years!
works, but very heavy Jun 15, 2010 It does its job as it claims, but the two metal holders are so heavy. Despite it is a German brand, the sticker says made in China.
I keep it because it is not worthy to send it back. In general, it works.

sjc May 26, 2010 Heavy duty, and a good product, but why put a plastic handle on a stainless steel gadget? Everything is steel except the little plastic handle you turn to open a can. Even all the cheap can openers I've owned all had metal openers.
